Horror story or scientific diagnosis?

Reports issued by joboneforhumanity.org may evoke horror but they also prompt us to take governmental and political announcements on climate change with more than a pinch of salt.

Describing itself as a non-profit climate change think tank, the US-based activist organisation takes pride in providing ‘independent’ and ‘uncensored’ climate change analyses.

Here are edited excerpts from joboneforhumanity.org on the horrific consequences which the think tank foresees if use of fossil fuel (hydrocarbon containing material such as coal, crude oil, petroleum, natural gas et al) is not reduced drastically by 2025 or, at the most, 2031.

· Governments the world over have failed to fix the accelerating global warming over the last six decades. Life on earth is bound to pay dearly for the   delay in controlling climate change consequences. Disaster is knocking at the door.

· By 2025-2031, the severity, frequency, and the scale of extreme weather events will increase radically and far beyond where it is now! The earth will facing  climate change-driven extreme weather events like heatwaves, heat domes, droughts, wildfires, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados, floods and flooding, rain bombs, wind storms, dust storms, wildfire smoke events, unseasonal cold spells, and other abnormal unseasonal weather. This is the effect of over 150 years of fossil fuel burning.

· Today's global fossil fuel reduction targets require all the developed countries and governments to compel their citizens to cut down use of fossil fuels by about 75 % by 2025 or, at the most, by 2031. This target is now so high because our governments wasted 60 years when the necessary reductions could have been gradual and far more manageable. Claims by politicians and the gullible media that reduction in global fossil fuel use by 40-50% by the years 2030, 2040, or 2050 have little scientific support.

· Missing the 2025 - 2031 global fossil fuel reduction targets and consequently crossing the atmospheric carbon threshold of carbon 425-450 parts per million (ppm) will trigger the first extinction-accelerating global warming tipping point. The second phase of runaway global heating will begin. Renowned NASA climate scientist James Hansen said that we entered the first phase of runaway global heating when we passed the carbon 386 ppm level in 2015.

· It is feared that the lapses by our governments, as discussed above, could lead to an “unavoidable…  extinction of about half of humanity by about mid-century.” This could happen because we will be crossing the atmospheric carbon 425-450 ppm threshold. This, according to the think tank, will cause global crop failures, starvation, climate-induced regional and national conflicts and mass migrations.

· With little time left to act, the only effective way to save what will remain of humanity after mid-century from an even worse near-total extinction process is for our governments to enforce that we get close to the 75% global fossil fuel reduction target by 2025-2031.
