Meet the non-meats
Cell-based meat being processed in lab
A recent survey by Pew Research Center has revealed that roughly one-third of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 say they have tried to eat less meat, citing concerns over health, animal welfare, and the environment.
No wonder, plant-based meat substitutes and cell-based meat are emerging globally.
Plant-based meat
Plant-based meat products are designed to look, taste, and feel like meat, but are made from plant-based ingredients, such as soy, peas, and wheat. Cell-based meat is grown from animal cells in a lab, without the need for raising and slaughtering animals. Some companies are now producing insect-based protein powders and snacks, although this is still a relatively small market.
According to a report by MarketsandMarkets, the global plant-based meat market size, which stood at $ 4.6 billion in 2020, is projected to grow to $ 8.3 billion by 2025, at a CAGR of 12.0% during the forecast period.
Happy days for animals!
