Why don’t we think of permanent solutions? Why don’t we make requisite changes in our lifestyles, industry and agriculture to reduce the consumption of water? Perhaps we have become used to digging wells, so to say, only when we almost run out of water.
Thankfully, there are exceptions! Realising the severity of the situation and the risk which it poses, many countries like Israel have displayed commendable innovation and ingenuity to contain the water crisis in their deserted and semi-arid landscapes. Others like China have opted for multi-billion projects for water linkages and transfer. Countries like Kenya and India have combined ancient wisdom and modern techniques to deal with the crisis. Morocco has shown the way in converting fog into drinking water.
Recent researches have shown that growing meat consumption is damaging our environment in more ways than one. Anti-meat awareness is rising particularly in the younger generation in North America. Plant-based meat has made it to the malls and is showing healthy sales growth. Animal cell-based meat has crossed the threshold of science labs to enter the food market. This can end the need for raising large livestock and slaughtering them for our dining tables.
